Description
A lovely green and white lady slipper orchid (Cypripedioideae) shows beautifully against green. Though the image is nearly tone on tone, the details of the flower are so dramatic that it is not lost in the background. Despite their delicate appearance, Cypripedium is a hardy orchid with species that grow in places as different as the Alaskan and Siberian tundra and tropical regions like Honduras and Myanmar in Central America and Asia. The flower gets its name from the unusual slipper-shaped lower petal.

WOW - quite impressive Nikolyn. It always amazes me how very few photographers, like yourself, are able to tackle "flowers" as a photographic subject and turn them into beautiful pieces of art (this is coming from someone who has no idea how to be creative when it comes to flower photography - that's why you see almost no images of flowers in my portfolio). Very well presented. All the best in 2016.
Nikolyn McDonald replied:
Thank you very much, Hany. I kind of know what you mean - and I find orchid's particularly challenging. This one sat in my files for a very long time before I was able to find a presentation I liked. It might be there still were it not for a contest I spotted that I thought it would be perfect for LOL
