NARRATIVE
A place of volcanoes, way out beyond the last bit of civilization, where sky and land clash often and violently, the earth has cracked open in a great chasm, an abyss by any reckoning; a place where monsters may lurk, even perhaps, dragons. A storm blows by, colorful, rainbow-like and quick, leaving but a trace of wet on the walls of the bleak deep crevice. Not the sort of place one would wander recklessly, and yet, its stark beauty demands attention. A place to wander in and get lost. Forever.
DESCRIPTION
An imaginary reckoning of the Taos Gorge begun one day when I was still a member of Sage Fine Art in Taos. Now it's not that the walls are closer than they are in reality, but rather that they are steeper and deeper. I especially enjoyed painting the sweep of colorful rain and really pushing the contrast of the whitest white of the storm to the darkest dark of the canyon wall in shadow.

I've been painting the West for over 40 years and a...
