Description
NARRATIVE
Lander 2000. (Painted as a commission during the week between Christmas and New Years, 1999 from an oil sketch done that August. A true Y2K painting.)
A cowboy artist stood one late summer day, paintbrush in hand, just as the century turned; his boyhood town spread before him, the hot late morning sun heating up his palette. The old blue Purina Mill still stood, an ever watchful sentry on Main Street (still just nine blocks long) to this, the gateway to the Winds, perhaps the most rugged mountains anywhere. Once 60,000 feet they lay hidden just beyond the pleasant green foothills turned brown by the August sun. Some claim Lander, Wyoming, as the first real cowboy town. It hasn't changed much, the bustle of elsewhere having passed it by. He picked up his brush and squinted up the Old Washakie trail. He could see the old Grand Theater just beyond the Lander Bar. Better hurry up, the whiskey's waiting.
