Artist's Description

NARRATIVE

Beyond the madding crowds, in a land of enchantment, where the rivers run bluer and the skies open up to the heavens above, God rays fall on an old adobe shack with a blue roof.

DESCRIPTION

A bit of the imaginary and a bit of the real went into this painting. On the real side is the adobe structure located in Rinconada where the canyon opens up between Velarde and Pilar on the road to Taos. I found the old pickup and van along the backroads near Taos, I believe Ranchitos Road. The God Rays themselves were actually near Ruidoso in southern New Mexico. The Rio Grande is imaginary and perhaps a bit more meandering than it is in real life, but it felt right and I loved sending it off into the distance.

I've been painting the West for over 40 years and a...
